Happy Hallowe'ening!

Scary 👀 Drive on Monida Pass*

We started the day with dry roads and more of the same SW winds we had experienced getting to Great Falls yesterday. We were south of Dillon MT on Interstate 15 when we started seeing the scene below. It wasn't long before the air was full of blowing snow, the temperature had dropped from 37F/3C to 24F/-4C and the roads were treacherously slippery. Didn't see anyone in the ditch; Bill switched to 4-wheel drive and by the time we stopped for the evening in Idaho Falls, ID the roads were dry again and the temperature was a balmy 43F/6C!

Before our evening meal we had a great walk along the Snake River from the campground to the Idaho Falls hydroelectric generating site.

*Monida (Montana/Idaho) Pass is a high mountain pass on the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains with an elevation of 6870 ft above sea level. Dillon is 5,240′ and Idaho Falls 4,705′

Good Day on the Road

We're in Great Falls MT tonight after an uneventful day of driving 👍

Best photo we could snag of the snowy Rocky Mountains -
they were shining in the sun between Calgary and Lethbridge

One surprising sight along our route was a Bald Eagle perched on some irrigation equipment.  Must be migrating south, just like we are?

Our border crossing at Coutts-Sweetgrass was really quick - we drove right up to the booth and then the officer asked 5 questions:
  • passports?
  • where are you going?
  • how long are you staying?
  • how much cash do you have?
  • how much alcohol do you have?
